Stranded visitors can extend a deadline

Stranded foreigners due to Covid-19 can apply for extending a deadline of visa after July 31. 
The Chief of Immigration Department, major general Sompong Chingduang recently said foreigner visitors who still stranded due to Covid-19 will be allowed to apply a visa deadline extend after the visa expires on July 31. 

The grace period that visitors can apply is from August 1 to September 26. After this day, people without extended visas that still keep staying then will face the legal actions from authority as well as listed into the 'blacklist'. Before that, the Government of this country announced an automated visa extend for foreign visitors up to July 31. At that time, those visitors must inform their accommodation to the authorities.

Majority general Chiangduang calls people to contact early to the Immigration Department to make the procedure, avoid the crowded situation when expiration is approaching very nearly. For visitors who have plans returning home not need contacting to the Department, but must leave at the latest on September 26. 

In the document applying for a short visa extend (30 days), visitors must express clear reasons and provide the needed papers. If these people can not return home due to without flights, or due to lockdown measures at their countries then they need to show evidence. The providing of a short visa will be conducted by the government based on particular cases. 

The Department has submitted to State Council the proposal above and consular Internal Ministry to be able to make an announcement after that. Regulations on visa of foreigners who stranded will be submitted to Government by the Internal Ministry for approving on July 21. After that, the Immigration Department will roll out guidance on how to apply. 

Estimated that, about 300.000 - 400.000 foreigners stranded in Thailand due to pandemic.
